I am André Vieira, a Brazilian visual storyteller and journalist based in Portugal. I am honored to be a 2023 National Geographic Explorer for Storytelling. My work focuses on the vital relationship between humans and the natural world at a time in which their harmonious coexistence is crucial for the future of both. 

With extensive international experience in South, Central, and North America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and Japan, my work has been published in prestigious publications, including The New York Times, Brand Eins, Der Spiegel, Stern, Geo, Terra Mater, Monocle, The Telegraph Magazine, La Repubblica “D", and Annabelle. 

Recognized with awards from World Press Photo, I have also received grants from esteemed organizations, including the National Geographic Society, Pulitzer Center, Journalismfund.eu, the IPRN Foundation, and VG Bild-Kunst. 

My work has been showcased in group exhibitions held in Belgium, Japan, France, Finland, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Additionally, my photographs are featured in collections at the Instituto Moreira Salles in Brazil, the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan, and the Ruhr Museum in Germany.
